Meteor Crater Iron Shale Finds - Made by Bolidechaser

Meteorite hunting is prohibited by the landowners around the Meteor Crater vicinity. The specimens imaged here were found on the berm of a public road while taking pictures of Meteor Crater. These specimens are not meteorites. These specimens are either the products of oxidation, or are the resultant mixture of vaporized meteoroid and terrestrial rock at the site of impact.

MC98123-RSVall A collection of "iron shale" (magnetite) and iron-rich cinder (impactite).
MC98123-RSVn Zoom IN of the above image - note --- this specimen. These images were taken through a 14x lens.
MC98123-RSV1 This piece of magnetic iron shale has attracted a microscopic-sized nugget of iron.
MC98123-RSV1 Zoom IN, - Scale is graduated in 100ths of an inch.
MC98123-RSV1 Final Zoom IN - Because of its microscopic size, this specimen tested inconclusive for nickel with dimethyl gloxine.
MC98123-RSV2 Fragment of Iron Shale. Fragments like this one have tested positive for nickel with dimethyl gloxine.
MC98123-RSV2 Microscopic view - between layers is a "bleb" that is unoxidized and is enriched in nickel.
MC98123-RSV2 Another Zoom IN - crossing layers is another microscopic "bleb" in this specimen that has been tested to contain nickel.
MC98123-RSV3 Under Construction - are several images of banded hematite with inclusions of fine-grained quartz sand.
MC98123-RSV3 Under Construction - are several images of banded hematite with inclusions of fine-grained quartz sand.
MC98123-RSV3 Under Construction - are several images of the quartz sand grains, which are being tested to see if they are "shocked"...
