PAINTED DESERT -
Bolidechaser Travels to the Painted Desert
May 2, 1998
US I-40, Exit 311
Apache County, Arizona

Bolidechaser takes a side trip to the Painted Desert.
Twenty miles East of the Holbrook strewn field is the Painted Desert,
which is actually that portion of the
Petrified Forest National Park
north of I-40.

Bolidechaser's Painted Desert Trip Log:

You can access the Painted Desert by taking the North Entrance to the Petrified Forest:

It's just a few miles from the Gift Shop/Restaurant at the Main Entrance to this Panorama:

Be sure to stop at Stewart's Petrified Wood & Meteorites on your way back to Holbrook and the strewn field:

It is not permitted to collect petrified wood within the National Park. But it's easy to pick up a great specimen here. STEWART's is just 9 miles east of the strewn field and just north of Adamana at Exit 303:
